Three years in the making, both pieces on “Fabric of Light” were composed in New York City and presented in Toronto between 2021 and 2022. While these pieces represent meticulous inquiry into aspects of temperament and temporality, the sonic landscape is one that evokes solitude and loneliness, while simultaneously offering sentiments of freedom and reflection.

Originally composed for Viola and Cello, the title track re-composed for Shō and just intonated Prophet Rev II. Over the course of the album, the pieces navigate between equal temperament and the almost-Pythagorean tuning of the Shō and between 7-limit just intonation shifting to a more consonant 5-limit just intonation. In crafting "Fabric of Light," Hulse alternates between the Shō and the precise tuning of the Prophet synthesizer, weaving a sonic landscape filled with timbral shifts and thematic echoes. This approach creates a dynamic space of tension and release, leading listeners into a reflective, meditative experience. At its heart, the work celebrates sound's transformative potential, inviting listeners to explore the chasm of space opened by this music.
